We will acknowledge your request, email the address you give us to confirm the request is genuinely yours, and respond within 30 calendar days (we may extend this for complex requests and will tell you if we do). Your details are used only to handle this request, as described in ourPrivacy Policy.

How we confirm the request is yours

Nothing in this form, and nothing in an email, proves who sent it. So we confirm every request by email before we act on it, the same way every time:

We reply only to the email address written in the request above. We never reply to a different address, and the address a message happens to arrive from is not treated as proof of anything, because it is easy to fake.
You confirm from that same address that the request is yours. Until that confirmation reaches us nothing is actioned: no data is sent out, nothing is corrected, and nothing is deleted.
If no confirmation comes back, or the reply asks us to send your data somewhere else, we refuse the request and take it no further. We keep a note of the refused attempt and its date.
If a request is unusually broad, or we cannot match it to any data we hold, we may ask one proportionate follow-up question. Please donot send copies of identity documents unless we specifically ask for them.

This is also what stops a request made in someone else's name. The confirmation goes to the address named in the request, so only the real owner of that address can approve it, and they would see the request rather than us acting on it. A request naming an address that is not yours cannot cause that person's data to be disclosed or deleted.
